What’s this?
These are some of the most interesting and beautiful things that we talked about at our studio this week. We show you the stuff that we have come across on instagram, the web or in real life and that inspires and excites us. And yes, sometimes we mingle in our own projects. We enjoy sharing it with our friends, colleagues and anyone interested. Below this week’s 5 tips, here our collected overview.
1: Girls, girls, girls
One of the most consistently stylish magazines around is The Gentlewoman, art directed by magazine wizard Jop van Bennekom. They’ve put a best of the best archive with a long list of interviews with inspirational women such as Florence Shaw, Nan Goldin, Barbara Kruger and Julia Garner online. Good stuff!!
2: The band was here
Steve Birnbaum tracks down the locations where (famous) album covers and band photos were taken like a visual detective.
3: Going Dutch
Photographer Jimmy Nelson documented 20 communities in traditional dress and the environment that formed them, The Netherlands. Looked down upon by most Dutch as a touristic cliche, this book – Between the Sea and the Sky – shows the beauty of local heritage that’s incredibly rich and diverse.
4: Sentient Beth
Beth Frey is a Canadian artist who creates images with the help of AI under her monniker Sentient Muppetfactory. Her muppets are a bit like Cindy Sherman on acid. Pretty cool to see her work used as the artwork for Róisín Murphy’s new album Hit Parade (also worth a listen 😉!)
5: Juliet was here
Craftsmanship is the future! And Juliet Seger’s project The Human Touch is a brilliant concept showing every step of craftsmanship litterally on her clothes.
