Tip 5 — week 15, 2025

What’s this?

These are some of the most interesting and beautiful things that we talked about at our studio this week. We show you the stuff that we have come across on instagram, the web or in real life and that inspires and excites us. And yes, sometimes we mingle in our own projects. We enjoy sharing it with our friends, colleagues and anyone interested. Below this week’s 5 tips, here our collected overview.

1: Bold & Gritty

Put this into your agenda. The 24th of May the exhibition Bold & Gritty - Abstract art from public spaces will open in the The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, in collaboration with Rotterdam-based curators Opperclaes. Participating artists Pablo Tomek, Like Gers, Yann L’Outsider, Jason Revok, Thomas&Jurgen, Mike Ballard and Kenneth Letsoin will exhibit their predominantly abstract work alongside those of one of their key inspirations, Katharina Grosse.

2: Everyday everywheres

Masala Noir is a Paris-based independent publishing house focusing on countercultures and design history. We are especially amazed by the specific collected works. 140 pages of Cigarette Packs from 1930 to 2010? The got it. A chronological collection of Thailand’s movie posters? Check.

3: Designed in CH, made in JP

Designed in CH, Made in JP is a collaborative project between ECAL Master Product Design and Karimoku New Standard. From 13 April to 13 October 2025, representatives from all over the globe will gather to showcase innovation, culture, and sustainability at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. For Switzerland’s pavilion, MA Product Design students at ECAL were tasked with designing a stackable wooden chair to be produced in Japan.

4: Atelier XXXL

Atelier Devineau are the absolute masters of decoration. Designing and creating amazing decors, that is. In the atelier's workshop the decors are meticulously hand-painted by their artistic team, enhancing texture and depth to fulfill an opera's dramaric essence or disruptive the fashion show scene.

5: Eastern Blocks 2

Eastern Blocks 2 by our favourite publisher Zupagrafika is a photographic journey through the cityscapes the former Eastern Bloc, inviting readers to explore the districts and peripheries that became a playground for mass housing development after WW2, including objects like Soviet ‘flying saucers’, houses ‘on chicken legs’ or hammer-shaped tower blocks.
