Friday TopFiveDay! #48

Our favorites of week 38

Kern’s 5 Ws: wow, what, wow, wow & who?

Every week we share a top 5 of the most interesting, coolest, funniest and most exciting stuff that we have encountered on the web and elsewhere. In our studio we have been sharing things that we see around us and that we find remarkable, for as long as we’ve been a team. This way we keep each other informed of the world outside of our personal perspective, because we have a collective hunger for the new.

With this overview we give you some insight into what fascinates us. In addition to projects from clients and self-initiated projects, this is what Jort, Vivian, Jord, and John Patrick are talking about in the studio. Do share this list and let us know if you have any tips!

Rotten beauties

Kathleen Ryan made waves on various design blogs earlier this year with her rotten fruit sculptures made from gems, crystals and stone. She made new rotten art and surprises us is the size of her works. Wow!

Hardbrock

Gilles de Brock is kicking some major ass with his self made CNC printing device. He designed and printed a series of really cool tiles, blurring lines between various creative fields along the way.

Storage stories

Walking the streets in post-war urban Netherlands means coming across thousands of garage boxes. Photographer Rosalie van der Does has a keen eye for visual anthropology and is currently shooting a wonderful series of these typical Dutch storage units called Opslag Verliefd. Awesome because there is a peeping Tom in each of us. And while you’re at it, check out the hilariously beautiful Shoppen & Proppen series as well!!

Minishow

Ever since 2006 we take care of music and visuals at The Hague’s KABK annual graduation fashion shows. And occasionally an afterparty. Last week we did sound and visuals for our 15th KABK fashion show; the weirdest edition thus far in a near empty academy yard, for a small audience with only 5 students showing their collections. Sad times, but luckily the after movie looks nice.

Type players

A few weeks ago we paid attention to Extraset for their new bad-ass website, but the fresh Danes over at Playtype also have a website that is cool as shit and is fitting for their wonderful typeface collection!
