Friday TopFiveDay! #21

Our suggestions for week 5

The fantastic 5

Every week we select our top 5 of the most interesting, coolest, funniest and most exciting stuff that we have encountered on the web and elsewhere. In our studio we have been sharing things that we see around us all day and that we find remarkable for ages. This way we keep each other informed of the world outside of our personal perspective, because we share a hunger for new.

With this overview we give you a look behind the scenes at Kern. In addition to projects from clients and self-initiated projects, this is what concerns Jort, Vivian, Jord, and John Patrick. Do share this list and let us know if you have any tips!

BitterSweet street art.

If you have had your eye on street art over the last 20 years, Faile is one of the most prominent names in the game. Their work has popped up all over the globe in a wide variety of mediums. Now they’re doing a lovely bittersweet project in their hometown NYC again, creating Valentine’s Day packaging for local artisan chocolate makers, FINE & RAW. Choose between the $40 and $75 box and win those hidden golden tickets : ).

Fruit butchering

Roze Bunker is the name of a bunch fruit butchers. They cut up and slaughter fruit to create wild syrups with ingredient combinations like Laos and raspberries or ginger and Madame Jeanette. Their swanky website is a joy to click around in.

Generic type?

We are big fans of simple ideas with huge impacts. Take this campaign by Leo Burnett London & David Schwen for McDonald’s. These posters neglect to show food, nor even mention McDonald’s, yet everyone (in the target audience) knows what they’re about. That’s pretty impressive with the use of just color and generic Helvetica typography!

Art Rotjeknor

Rotterdam is the only “real” metropole of The Netherlands and it took a while for the city to live up to that reputation in the world of arts. The coming edition of Art Rotterdam Week looks quite promising though, with an impressive list of galleries and artists. Among them our buddies of Minigalerie who represent Cody Hudson, Pablo Tomek and Rutger de Vries to name only a few. Check it out from 5 – 9 February!

*we have fun memories of Art Rotterdam 2013, when we created the designs for its counter event Re-Rotterdam.

Although our studio dog Eno is pretty pissed off that we can’t get it to work (might be only for US Spotifiers?), we love the idea of Spotify playlists customized to your pet’s taste. Give it a spin and get Bello in the mood for some good times adjusted to his personality.
